The Role

The Supply Chain Director reports directly to the plant VP of Operations and the Americas VP of Supply Chain. The position encompasses four key areas of work:

  1. Sourcing: leads the company to decide where to buy and under which conditions and reflecting those conditions in our own internal communication systems (ie ERP) and contracts with suppliers.
  2. Material planning: decides on date and quantity on materials and services where it is already known in advance where to buy from and under which conditions and sends out and follows up the corresponding PO to suppliers.
  3. Warehouse: defines and executes the processes related to the material flow throughout the entire material cycle at the site
  4. Logistics: manages inbound and outbound freight with suppliers and customers.

The liaison with other key stake holders in Engineering and Sales is also key for the position, as some of these materials are essential and visible part of our selling value proposition to our customers who in some cases might even dictate or constrain the supplier choice. Providing the right visibility and assuring the correct alignment between the Sales and sourcing strategies is essential for business risk mitigation and success.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Develop the Local Supply Chain team to a high performing organization by planning and developing the necessary personnel in agreement when applicable with other company key stakeholders, ensuring the correct application of tools and policies on training, career path and evaluations.
  • Assure the deployment and execution of the objectives and directives assigned to the Supply Chain function by the site VP Operations and the rest of the Supply Chain organization.
  • Assure the availability of Materials and Services at the required dates according to the company needs.
  • Define the right Material planning and ordering processes (MRP, reordering point, spot order, etc.) for each type of material or services, considering the key related business conditions such as customer orders lead time, supplier lead time, availability and reliability of bill of materials, etc.
  • Monitor the business development and maintain accordingly the key material planning parameters in the system such as min/max stock, reordering points, min order quantities and others.
  • Execute periodically the defined planning processes and send to suppliers via the defined communication channel (email, EDI, others) the corresponding material or services requests or orders coming out of the above-mentioned predefined planning processes.
  • Assure that supplier orders are inclusive of or make clear reference to all necessary documentation related to the conditions of purchase.
  • Manage and execute the defined process of receiving supplier confirmation for the received orders. Manage and escalate, if necessary, such cases in which those supplier order confirmations contradict, totally or partially, the requested purchasing conditions.
  • Understand the Market evolution: threats, opportunities and technological trends. Inform other affected areas in the company.
  • Assure the necessary input and support to the organization in Supply Chain related matters (budget preparation, ERP maintenance, plant objectives, reporting, projects, supplier issues, etc.).
  • Define and execute the processes related to Material handling throughout the entire material cycle at the site. Assure the correct levels of material inventory.
  • Assure that the necessary commodity sourcing activities and processes required by the different projects in development are launched and completed on time.
  • Lead the selection and nomination of new suppliers relative to the assigned spend until final approval according to the established decision levels.
  • Lead the purchasing activities related to new contracts or modifications of existing ones according to the established decision levels relative to the assigned spend.
  • Foster and lead the initiatives related to the improvement of the cost and efficiency of the Materials, Components, Investments and Services used in order to meet the company’s yearly and long-term objectives.
  • Assure that the correct level and content of technical and financial information is available throughout all sales bidding and purchasing sourcing processes.
  • Ensure the alignment of the supply base development with the company’s goals and strategic actions.
  • Implement and execute the Procedures, Tools, Operative Instructions and Reporting Systems, so that the assigned functions can be correctly executed, results and information correctly consolidated, decisions adequately taken and intercompany communication facilitated.
  • Represent Kelvion as needed on matters related to Supply Chain.

About you:
  • You are a well experienced Supply Chain Manager with a proven track record. 
  • You have at least 5 years managerial experience in a medium sized, international/global organization, preferably in a mechanical engineering environment and able to work in matrix based organization.
  • You have an university or equivalent degree level of academic education related to the job scope (engineering, economics, business management).
  • You have proven experience in self-managing a team of people with a given set of objectives and creating an accountability and results oriented working culture.
  • You are a purpose driven individual, target oriented and used to working under pressure.
  • You have a proven record of driving transformation and step improvements in Supply Chain.
  • You are a proactive person that permanently looks out for improvement opportunities through product and/or supplier changes. 
  • You have good negotiation skills in order to obtain the better procurement conditions while good and professional relationships with suppliers are kept.
  • You have flexibility as to resolve external and internal conflict situations.
  • You are able to read and digest complex sets of data and derive from them key conclusions to drive actions forward.
  • You have a very good command of Microsoft Office tools, in particular Excel (Power BI a plus).
  • You have the availability to do extensive travelling and are willing to work in a true international environment with individuals of different cultures and nationalities.
