Continuous Improvement Manager

Summary: The position is responsible for leading the continuous improvement initiatives to generate significant value and cost efficiencies by performing the following duties:
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Assists in developing, maintaining & communicating a vision & strategy for implementation of comprehensive Lean manufacturing system. Sets expectations for a continuous improvement culture.
  • Drives Continuous Improvement to quantitatively and qualitatively improve costs, quality and service to achieve business results.
  • Identify and facilitate process improvement projects, training/ workshops to drive cultural change
  • Conduct root cause analysis to determine metrics, troubleshoot manufacturing/ business and assembly issues, material flow, project plans, production capacity, facility design and create process documentation
  • Carrying out advanced data collection and analysis for process mapping, develop budgets and cost analysis to determine project feasibility
  • Develop systematic training, and implement continuous improvement methodologies including but not limited to 6 Sigma, 5S, Lean, overall equipment efficiency (OEE) and others.
  • Responsible tracking downtime results, improving data integrity and communicate their finding with management to develop improvement plans based on the data collection.
  • Provide strategic leadership and tactical planning for the technical training.
  • Work with business leadership to identify and prioritize process improvement opportunities to support cost saving programs and future growth.
  • Review company’s internal processes and procedures, using data-driven problem analysis tools to detect operating issues and assess return-on-investment indicators for on-going projects.
  • Ability to improve the company’s operating output by preventing or eliminating defects and errors in products.
  • Ability to improve quality standards in operating activities.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Responsible for effective project management skills to identify, propose, prioritize and manage process improvement projects that result in improved performance and productivity.
  • Study processes continually and implement process improvements where effective.
  • Monitor quality of work performed in accordance with the company’s Quality Plan.

  • Effective team building skills to enable departments to participate on projects designed to improve processes, eliminate waste and reduce product defects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • No direct supervisory responsibilities, but must be able to conduct his/her day-to-day duties in a highly professional manner. This position interfaces with executive management, operations management, and shop employees to coordinate and perform tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to help conceptualize & implement the complete manufacturing process, systems, and structure.
  • Fluency in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing tools, concepts and methodology – i.e. Visual Management, Value Stream Map (VSM), Kaizen, Visual Standard Work, 5S, FIFO, Kanban, Just-In-Time, etc.
  • Ability to deliver continuous improvement and Lean training; ability to provide mentoring and coaching.
  • Experience at creation and deployment of continuous improvement Goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics.
  • Heat exchanger manufacturing or steel fabrication/manufacturing background preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS
  • Must possess good computer skills to perform the following tasks, primarily in a Microsoft office environment: electronic mail (Outlook), record keeping, routine database activity, word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), graphics (MS PowerPoint), Project Management (MS Projects), etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in general management experience in a manufacturing environment.
