Sprays surfaces of manufactured products by performing the following duties:
Responsibilities
Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisor regarding painting.
Select premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
Clean grease, rust, and dirt from product; washes surfaces prior to painting; may be required to blast parts to prepare for painting; apply masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
Spread drop cloths over floors and cover surfaces that do not require paint with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
Pour coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose; turn sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray.
Install specified nozzles in spray guns. Replaces screens and filters; pull the trigger and directs spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat using enamel, polyurethane, epoxy, gel-coat, lacquer, and other industrial paints; clean spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.
Load and move materials to work and drying areas by industrial forklift, overhead and jib cranes.
Maintains production record of parts and jobs fabricated as required by the Department Manager.
Perform other routine duties.
Set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
Abrades surfaces of metal or hard composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish.
Shovel or pours abrasives such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
Mask specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
Load parts on racks or in enclosed rooms manually or using industrial forklift or overhead cranes.
Turn valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle.
Start equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive laden compressed air, gas over surface of parts.
Direct nozzle over surface of large parts and manipulates parts under nozzle for specified interval.
Examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
Maintains production record of parts and jobs fabricated as required by the Department Manager.
Ability to assist painter in simple paint application.
Must pass Pulmonary Function Test (PFT).
Must be able to wear respirator.
Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work on–site, ability to work overtime.
Ability to work cooperatively with others, ability to deal respectfully with the public, customers, vendors, other employees, managers, and executive management.
Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to interchange with others in the department.
Ability to use and interpret DFT measuring equipment.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily this person will also be required to fully pass a NACE paint test on plate with obstructions, all is to be performed with at a minimum in the presence of a NACE Level 2.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. One year related experience required.
